Document Management

Upload treaties, legislation, case law, and client documents to build a searchable knowledge base. Uploaded documents are automatically processed and become available to the AI assistant and memorandum generation engine.

Uploading Documents

To upload documents:

  1. Navigate to Documents
  2. Click Upload or drag and drop files into the upload area
  3. Select a category for each document (Treaty, Legislation, Case Law, Client, OECD, Other)
  4. Optionally specify the jurisdiction

Supported formats:

PDFDOCXXLSXTXT

Maximum file size: 50MB per file.

Document Processing

After upload, documents go through an automated processing pipeline:

Text Extraction

Content is extracted from the uploaded file format.

Chunking

Text is split into semantic chunks (by article, section, or paragraph).

Embedding

Each chunk is converted to a vector embedding for AI search.

Indexing

Metadata (jurisdiction, date, type) is indexed for filtering.

Processing status is shown on each document: Pending ProcessingCompleted. Once completed, the document content is searchable by the AI.

Document Categories

TreatyBilateral and multilateral tax treaties, protocols, and exchange of information agreements.
LegislationDomestic tax legislation, regulations, and administrative guidance.
Case LawCourt decisions, tax rulings, and advance pricing agreements.
ClientClient-provided documents: contracts, corporate structures, financial statements.
OECDOECD Model Convention, Commentary, Transfer Pricing Guidelines, and BEPS reports.

Using Documents in AI Chat

Once a document is processed, its content becomes part of the AI's searchable knowledge base. When you ask a question in AI Chat, the assistant will automatically search your uploaded documents alongside the built-in legislation database.

Documents referenced in an AI response are listed under the "Sources" section of each message, with links back to the original document.

Managing Documents

From the Documents page, you can:

  • View document details (file type, size, upload date, processing status)
  • Download the original file
  • Delete documents you no longer need
  • Filter by category and search by name

Note

Deleting a document removes it from the AI's knowledge base. Citations referencing the document in existing memorandums will remain, but the source will no longer be searchable.
